Lyle is naturally a fire prone area with historic fires starting from lightening, volcanic eruptions and, in more recent history, human causes like prescribed burning from farmers and indigenous peoples over centuries.

Preparing for fire season and reducing fire risk is important in the Lyle Fire District.
Now is a great time to reduce fire risk on your property - Here are opportunities that landowners that limbed trees and removed brush on their property might consider to reduce fire risk and spread:
West of the Klickitat River:
Lyle Community Chipper Day: Limited space available for those who can have piles stacked and ready for chipping. At this time there is a waitlist. Contact Prevention@LyleFire.com for more information and to be added to the list.
Underwood Conservation District's (UCD) mobile chipper: Limited space is available in May. Sign yourself up here.
Underwood Conservation District (UCD) crew: If your property is in the Burdoin fire area, a work crew may be available to help limb, prune, fell small and medium-sized trees, and remove the debris. Email fire@ucdwa.org or call 509-637-7003 to learn about eligibility.
Local Contractors: Hiring a qualified contractor can make wildfire mitigation projects safer, more effective, and easier to complete.
