Reducing Fire Risk
Burn Ban Information

Burn Ban Determination
The Klickitat County Department of Emergency Management in collaboration with countywide fire departments, annually considers the current conditions, seasonal forecasts, snowpack data and more to make an informed determination on when to implement a burn ban to improve safety and limit fire risk. The proposed date is then reviewed and voted on by the Klickitat County Commissioners for implementation. A similar process is used to determine when the burn ban should end or be rescinded.

In addition to Klickitat County burn bans, the Washington Department of Ecology can institute burn bans.
Lyle is located in Zone 2 along with the following districts: Centerville, Dallesport, Goldendale, High Prairie, Klickitat, Rural 7, Wahkiacus, and Wishram.
Banned Activities
To minimize community risk in our seasonally fire prone area, no outdoor burning is permitted during an active burn ban, except as provided for in the Klickitat County Burn Ban Code 8.24. As with any fire, you may be responsible for the cost of a fire resulting from your activities.
Approved Activities
There are very few approved burning activities allowed during a burn ban, if used in a safe manner with a variety of safety measures in place. These activities may not be without risk. As with any fire, you may be responsible for the cost of a fire resulting from your activities.
Fire Risk Reduction
In addition to abiding by an active burn ban, there are many small actions that can be taken on a property to greatly reduce fire risk.
