New Fire Truck Coming to Lyle Thanks to FEMA Grant

With an aging Lyle Fire Department (LFD) fleet, the LFD leadership has been exploring replacement options for years.

Thanks to a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant, the LFD has commissioned the build of a new fire truck (pumper/tender) to better respond to community needs. The FEMA grant awarded $517,142.85 to go toward this project. An average truck of this capacity may cost up to $800,000.

The LFD board of commissioners has authorized the surplus of the oldest tender in the fleet - a 1984 Kenworth with an excess of 515,000 miles on it.

The tender that was purchased with the funds generously donated by the community will be heavily relied upon over the next two years.

*Note - The FEMA grant requires a 5% match of local tax funds.
