In a joint effort between the High Prairie Fire Department and the Lyle Fire Department, a proposal to replace antiquated safety gear was submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters grant program.
The proposal received $288,106.66 in funding from FEMA which will go toward purchasing new self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to better protect fire fighters while responding to structure fires and vehicular accident response.
Safety gear of this nature is incredibly important as toxic fumes, smoke and other airborne contaminants can cause major health issues.
